My name is Jamie Barnes, and I am excited to start my third year as principal of Biloxi Upper Elementary School.

From an early age, my parents instilled in me the power and importance of education, and for as long as I can remember, being an educator and school leader has been my dream. Education changed my life and provided me with opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t have been available to me.  It is my sincerest hope that in my daily interactions with your children, I instill in them that same sense of importance.

We have another exciting year planned at Biloxi Upper Elementary School, where Adventures in Learning Await!  As we go on this adventure, we will work together to ensure that our students, staff, and community ACHIEVE.  LEAD.  EXCEL.

I am looking forward to an amazing 2023-2024 school year full of successes for both students and staff.  This year will be my fifth year to serve as Assistant Principal at BUE.  This will be my twenty-first in education.  I taught for two years in Forrest County and returned home to Biloxi in 2005.  I have been blessed to have taught at North Bay Elementary, BJHS, and BUE.

I attended and graduated from Biloxi Public School District, so it is such an honor to work within the district that motivated me to become an educator!

I received my Bachelor's of Elementary Education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2003, my Master's of Elementary Education from William Carey University in 2008, and my Doctorate (PhD) in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2013.  I am looking forward to working with the administration, teachers, parents, staff, and students to ensure we have yet another successful year at BUE.

I am a lifelong Biloxi native and BHS graduate.  I graduated from USM where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in the subjects of math, science, social studies, and reading.  I then went on to get my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership at William Carey University.  I have served nine years in education, all with the Indian Nation in third grade at North Bay Elementary.  I also have a daughter named Valley who is currently in the second grade at North Bay.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time in the pool with friends and family as well as shopping in my spare time.  I chose to be in education because it is such a rewarding job. I love watching the children grow throughout the year and fill their brains with lasting knowledge.  I am looking forward to continuing to serve the Indian Nation as the Assistant Principal here at Biloxi Upper Elementary where our adventures in learning await!
